Survey of agriculture and horticulture

Bookmark and Share
  • Release date: 27 November 2018
  • Period covered: 1 June 2018
These annual results provide estimates for Wales as a whole for agricultural land use, livestock on farms and the number of people working on agricultural holdings as at 1 June.

Key points

  • The number of sheep and lambs fell by 5 per cent from the figure in 2017. A likely contributory factor in this was the “Beast from the East” in spring this year.
  • The Welsh dairy herd is at its highest level in the last 15 years. In contrast the beef herd has fallen by over 20 per cent over the same period.
