Legislation is an important tool for implementing our waste strategy.

In February 2010 Wales was granted new powers to make its own laws on environmental issues after the Environment Legislative Competence Order (LCO) was made by Her Majesty the Queen in Privy Council.

The LCO, which had already been approved by the National Assembly of Wales and both Houses of Parliament, means that the National Assembly now has the power to pass its own waste laws. These laws are known as Assembly Measures.
