Supporting the Welsh Government with professional and independent pharmaceutical advice.

Andrew Evans was appointed Chief Pharmaceutical Officer on 8th August 2016.  As Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Andrew is responsible for providing ministers with professional and independent advice on all aspects of medicines, including their regulation. He is also responsible for leading the modernisation of pharmaceutical services and the continuing professional development of staff working in the sector.

The main responsibilities of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer are to:

  • provide independent advice on all aspects of medicines including the regulation of medicines
  • ensure that pharmaceutical services develop to meet specific healthcare needs
  • lead the modernisation of pharmaceutical services and continuing professional development of pharmacists and support staff
  • work with other UK government departments to co-ordinate pharmaceutical advice and information.
