Information on the impact and consequences of the UK Welfare Reform Act 2012 for the people of Wales.

Welfare reform is outside our control, so our role is limited to managing the impacts. We are helping tenants to cope with the changes.

Major reforms were announced in the UK Government’s Emergency Budget (June 2010) and afterwards, as the Welfare Reform Act. The changes began to be implemented from April 2011. Housing benefit is not devolved but there will be a significant impact on Wales.

We are monitoring the impacts closely. This includes working with the UK Government’s Department for Work and Pensions on national research and our own monitoring of registered social landlords.
