Through scientific discovery we develop ideas and innovations that will help to improve our health, protect our natural environment and contribute to our future prosperity.

Science for Wales

In 2011 we published our 'Science for Wales' strategy. This strategy sets out our vision of a strong and dynamic science base that can contribute to economic development and the broader welfare of our society.

The annual reports show what we've achieved since publishing the strategy, and how the plan has developed over time.

Science in government

The Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales (CSAW) advises the First Minister and Cabinet on scientific matters. The CSAW also represents our interests on topics for which the UK Government is responsible.

We employ scientists and engineers across the Welsh Government. They work on issues including climate change, energy, forestry, and health; they use evidence from scientific research to help us address the challenges we face as a society.

Further information on the roles and responsibilities of scientists in government (external link) can be found on the website.
